General Information

The NCS is equally used as the guiding principles, with emphasis on Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS); in teaching, learning and assessment.


 Significance of the Phase

This is the last phase just before Tertiary Studies. The relevance of the phase is portrayed as the last step towards choosing a career at the School Level. A phase where fine teaching and learning should shape a learner’s academic and professional life. It is the final phase where learners have to decide on subject choices, career direction and possibly work options when they finish school after Grade 12.


ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR FURTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING, GRADES 10 - 12

(1) The minimum entrance requirements for Grade 10 are: 

(a) an official Grade 9 school report which indicates that a learner has met the requirements for promotion to Grade 10 or that the learner was progressed in the Senior Phase in terms of paragraph 31 of the Admission policy for ordinary public schools, Government Notice 2432 in 30 the Government Gazette, Vol. 400, No. 19377 of 19 October 1998; or

 (b) a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) for Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET); or

 (c) a NQF Level 1 Certificate which requires two languages; or

 (d) a recognised equivalent qualification obtained at NQF Level 1 which requires two official languages.

(e) an official document of approval from the relevant Head of Education confirming that a learner who has received home education prior to Grade 10 has reached the required level in Grade 9.


(2)  For Entrance into Grades 11 and 12, 

An appropriate statement of achievement at the appropriate levels is issued by an approved or recognised assessment body.


STUDY PATHWAYS FOR GRADES 10 - 12

(1) Learners entering the FET Phase must follow one of the following two pathways, namely an Academic (General) or Technical pathway.

 (2) Learners following the Academic (General) pathway must follow the curriculum as contemplated in sub-paragraphs 2(a), 2(b), 2(c), 2(d) (i) and 2(e) of the National curriculum statement (NCS).

(3) Learners following the Technical pathway must follow the curriculum as contemplated in sub-paragraphs 2(a), 2(bA), 2(c) and 2(d) (ii) of the NCS

 

Subject Choices for the FET Band

The Grade 10 – 12 FET Curriculum requires learners to take at least seven subjects, made up as follows:

FOUR CORE SUBJECTS (Compulsory):

  • Afrikaans First Additional Subject (FAL)
  • English Home Language
  • Mathematical Literacy OR Mathematics ( Prerequisite: Minimum 50% Mathematics in Grade 9)
  • Life Orientation

THREE ELECTIVES, chosen from the Streams below, offered by the school:

STREAM A: COMMERCE

Economics( Prerequisite: Minimum 50% EMS in Grade 9)

Business Studies

Computer Application Technology(CAT)


STREAM B: TOURISM

Business Studies

Learners with strong academic performance are encouraged to choose only one 8th subject from the list above:

FET Promotion Requirements: Grades 10 – 12

The final promotion mark for each subject at the end of the year will be made up as follows:

25% School-Based Assessment (SBA)

75% End of Year Examination

For promotion purposes, learners must have a portfolio of evidence in all subjects taken. This is a record of all School-Based Assessment (SBA) activities done throughout the year. Learners must obtain the following minimum standards in order to be promoted to the next grade:

We also offer extra activities which are optional at a cost on Saturdays only, such as STEM Education with emphasis on Coding, Robotics etc. and Entrepreneurship for Kids. These classes are not for FET Learners.
